Featured Developer Daniel Green
At Best Buy Remix we are doing our best to try and help promote the work that is going on in and around the Remix API. I have decided to create a weekly series called The Featured Developer Series. If you are a Remix API developer and you would like to be featured here on the blog please contact me for submission at keith.burtis (at) bestbuy.com and we will certainly look at your project.
This weeks Featured Developer
This weeks featured Best Buy Remix Developer is Daniel Green. Daniel is a talented Developer from Cosmic Shovel, and we had a chance to talk with him about his current project Camelbuy.com.
1. Dan, tell us a bit about Camelbuy.com
camelbuy.com is the evolution of camelcamelcamel.com, my Amazon product tracker. It provides tools for researching and tracking Best Buy products, which is a fancy way of saying that the site has price history charts and can email you when the price of a product drops.
2. Dan, You are accessing the Best Buy Remix Api for this data correct? How developer friendly did you find working with the API?
That is correct. As soon as I heard about Remix, I knew I had to act quickly to launch camelbuy. Thankfully the API is extremely user friendly: the JSON output option is one of the primary reasons I was able to launch so quickly! The Remix team has also been great, even when a certain user finds bugs in their API.
3. You use Affiliate links to support the website. Is that correct?
Yes, I signed up for the affiliate program and use it for all of the product links on camelbuy. It’s great that the API can return affiliate-specific fields like product URLs; it makes affiliate life simple.
4. What makes camelbuy.com a valuable tool for your customers?
Camelbuy adds a lot of value to the Best Buy customer experience by providing the tools and information they need to make informed purchasing decisions. The context provided by our price history data really puts the user in control of their purchases, allowing them to decide when it’s the Best time to Buy. And our price alert system makes it possible to sit back and wait for the price to drop on that Wii that all the kids want so damn much.
5. Whats next for you? Any interesting projects in the works?
I plan to add support for tracking products at a user’s local Best Buy store, and am looking for other retailers whose customers I feel could benefit from the Camel system. Along with those to-do items, I will no doubt have plenty of Camel maintenance and bug fixing to keep me busy. All of my projects are listed on the Cosmic Shovel website when they launch, so if you’re interested that’s a good place to check.
As you can see Dan uses many of the API features and is also creating himself a passive income stream utilizing the Affiliate program. The team here at Remix would like to thank Dan for his decision to use the Best Buy Remix API. We look forward to more great work from Daniel.
